Roofing slate - Using Reflective Roofing Materials
February 13, 2008 on 9:01 am | In Roofing Supplies | No CommentsThe temperature of your roof plays a very important part in a number of different environmental factors within your home. If your roof collects heat without reflecting any then your home will get incredibly hot during the summer months meaning you will have to pay more for energy bills to keep your air conditioning running or face long sweaty days with no reprise from the searing temperatures. This extra heat can also cause a build up of moisture inside your roof and eventually cause damage to the timber structure; this damage may manifest itself in the form of cracks, warped materials and leaks. Also in winter your home will get very cold and you will have to pay more for heating to keep your home at a reasonable temperature. There are essentially four main types of reflective roofing materials you may want to consider using for your roof.

Manufacturing residential and commercial roofing and above/below-grade waterproofing products, cements and coatings.
More popularly known as the rubberized asphalt, the torch roofing system is commonly used in flat roofs. Basically the concept of torch-applied roofing system involves melting asphalt using a torch to create an impermeable roof. However, torch applications are highly hazardous to both roofers and the public. Roofing workers may suffer serious burns from the torch and high temperatures can possibly start a fire. Most roofers are not insured for the fire hazard that’s involved in the application of this system. This is the main reason why most manufacturers no longer permit direct torch application to wood substrates. Still, in view of the overwhelming demand of torch roofing, roofers readily take on the job albeit the risks involved in its application.
