Under Deck Roofing is the solid surface to which slates, shingles or other roofing material is attached. Normally, the decking is available in plywood sheets, wood board, or planks. In modern times, there is a noticeable partiality to laminated under deck roofing in which the ceiling is left exposed.

Lumber

This type of softwood boards should be seasoned so that they will not shrink after the shingles are attached. A 1-inch board will suffice for pitched or flat roofs unless the flat roof will also be used as a balcony. In cases like these, thicker boards will certainly be needed to provide extra strength. installation and affordability. The thickness of the material would greatly rely on the rafter spacing, the weight of the roofing material, and the average accumulation of ice and snow in your region.

Planks

If you decide to use planks for your under deck roofing, it should be at least 2 inches thick and should have a tongue and groove to make the joints a lot stronger. Planks are typically used on structures with very low or almost flat slope. There are laminated planks available in the market today. Its core is usually one type of wood while the outside would be an altogether different type of laminated wood. Laminated planks are excellent choices if the structure has a ceiling exposed all the way to the decking since the laminated side would provide

an attractive surface. There are also some planks that are made of all-wood fiber. These types of planks have excellent strength and insulating values. It is also resistant to weather and termites.

Your choice of under roof decking will depend on a number of factors. Your budget would be the primary consideration in determining the type of material to use. You will also need to take into account the size of the span of the rafters, as well as the weight your roof will bear. Once you have an idea on the required strength of your under deck roofing, you can have an educated choice as to what type of decking material to purchase.
